What is the ITI?
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting is a UK-based independent professional membership association for practising translators, interpreters and language services businesses.
Founded in 1986 and with over 3000 members – both in the UK and overseas – the ITI has a significant impact on the industry, fulfilling a key role in providing crucial information to government, industry, the media and the general public. For more information, visit the ITI website.
What is the EMRG?
The East Midlands Regional Group is one of 18 regional groups affiliated to the ITI.
We currently have around 35 members and are always on the look-out for new members, whether they are established translators and interpreters moving to our region or new professionals joining the industry. Our annual subscription is £10 for ITI members and free for current students. Membership also includes access to our Yahoo e-group, where we chat, support one another and share news. If you would like to join us, please contact our Membership Secretary, Atsuko Okada.
We have recently established an informal mentoring scheme to support those starting out in the industry, with both mentors and mentees alike reporting numerous benefits. If you would like more details about our mentoring scheme, please contact our Coordinator, Claire Storey.
We also offer CPD grants allowing EMRG members to participate in any CPD event, online or face-to-face, that will allow them to improve their knowledge and understanding of their specialist area of translation or interpreting, or to improve their linguistic skills. Grants will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the funds available at the time of application. For further information, please contact our Treasurer, Jon Olds.
